City of Eagle Pass Cemetery

Cemetery was located on Rio Grande Street, 2 blocks south of courthouse.

Map location (above) approximate.

The original cemetery for the city of Eagle Pass was abandoned around 1880. It was destroyed. Indications are that some interments were near the current Eagle Pass Cemetery at that time. Development has since obliterated most of the original site. Developments are the US Post Office (1950s), streets, railroad, and offices. Graves were apparently discovered as late as 1950 during construction of the current post office. A former city manager reported that a headstone was found during Post Office construction. This marker may have been the grave of the first mayor of Eagle Pass. - Texas Historic Sites Atlas
