Dennis Cemetery

From the intersection of FM 880 and Interstate 20 about 1 mile east of Putnam, take FM 880 north for 9.3 miles and the cemetery will be on your left (west) side of the road.

Dennis Cemetery is a small cemetery located about 3 1/2 miles south of Moran on FM 880. Although the cemetery is located in the northeastern corner of Callahan County just past the Shackelford County line, many of the graves belong to Moran citizens. Moran being located in Shackelford County. Dennis Cemetery was the primary cemetery for Moran in the 1880s before Moran cemetery was started. The earliest legible graves belong to Albert W. Dennis and Charnell Dennis, who both died in 1880, Albert being only one year old and Charnell being about 6 years old. There are many stones that cannot be read, and many appear to be older than the 1880 Dennis graves. Most of the oldest graves, located in the northeastern section of the cemetery, belong to Dennis family members, which is apparently how the cemetery got its name. It is also believed that in the 1870s a community called Dennisville existed in the area, but almost nothing is known about it. - findagrave
